امروز این خبر تکان دهنده استفاده شوک الکتریکی توسط پلیس دانشگاه UCLA برعلیه یک دانشجو (که ایرانی-آمریکایی هم هست) را دیدم. ویدیو اش تکاندهنده است. اینکه یک آدم بی‌دفاع را که تنها جرمش این است که فراموش کرده کارت دانشجوییش را برای رفتن به کتابخانه در آخر شب بهمراه داشته‌باشد اینطور باهاش برخورد بشود واقعا تکاندهنده است. البته بهتر بود که در مقابل دستور پلیس مقاومت نمی‌کرد ولی این دلیل نمی‌شود که پلیس از شوک الکتریکی بر علیه طرف استفاده کند.
دیدن ویدیوی این واقعه مخصوصا همه دانشجویانی که در ویدیو در کنار ایستاده بودند و کار پلیس را با نفرت تماشا می‌کردند، یک فلش‌بک یک حادثه یازده سال پیش را جلوی چشمم آورد. وقتی که دکتر سروش قرار بود در دانشگاه امیرکبیر سخنرانی بدهد و انصار حزب‌الله تهدید کرده‌بود که جلویش را خواهند گرفت. تعداد زیادی از دانشگاههای مختلف از شب پیش به دانشگاه امیرکبیر رفتند که با دفاع از آزادی بیان جلوی انصار را بگیرند. من کنجکاو هم فردا صبحش رفتم ببینم چه خبر است. دروازه دانشگاه توسط یک ردیف پلیس ضدشورش بسته‌شده بود و تمام دانشجوها در داخل زندانی شده‌بودند و هر از گاهی شعار می‌دادند. بیرون ردیف پلیسی که دم در دانشگاه بود انصار با وانت هایشان و بلندگو در خیابان حافظ بودند و شعار می‌دادند. در انتها هم کلی تماشاچی که اکثرا دانشجویانی مثل من بودند که از سر کنجکاوی و تا حدی هم همدلی با دانشجویان داخل دانشگاه آنجا رفته بودند. حدود یک ساعتی انصاریها شعار دادند. فکر کنم الله‌کرم هم سخنرانی کرد و سروش را به لیبرال بودن متهم کرد. این ماجرا قبل از آمدن خاتمی بود و الله کرم هنوز فرد آنقدر معروفی نبود برای همین خوب یادم نیست که او بود یا ده‌نمکی.
شباهت قضیه به ماجرای امروز اینجایش بود که یک دانشجوی شریف(عضو سابق انجمن اسلامی آنزمان) در کمال ناباوری همه ما نظاره‌گران به سراغ بلندگو بدست انصار رفت و از او خواست که حالا که آنها یک ساعت از پشت بلندگو هر چیزی خواسته‌اند گفته‌اند چند دقیقه هم بگذارد که او صحبت بکند. طرف انصاری هم گفت بلندگو می‌خواهی؟ بیا بگیرش و یک مشت مستقیم حواله کرد به صورت دانشجو. بعدش هم دانشجو را حلقه کردند و شروع کردن با مشت و لگد زدنش. بعضی‌هایشان زنجیرهم داشتند ولی نمی‌دانم که آیا با زنجیرهم می‌زدند یا نه. دانشجوی شریف کاملا بی‌دفاع یکی دو دقیقه‌ای از هفت هشت نفری که دورش بودند کتک می‌خورد. بلندگوچی هم مدام در بلندگو می‌گفت: «حزب‌الله درگیر نمیشه..حزب‌الله درگیر نمیشه...»
یادم نمی‌رود که صحنه آنقدر منزجرکننده بود که ما تماشاگرها با اینکه برای دردسر افتادن نیامده بودیم قدم به طرف انصار حزب‌اللهی‌ها برداشتیم تا طوری این فرد را نجات بدهیم. نیروی انتظامی هم تا دید ممکن است بدجور شلوغ بشود سرانجام باتون بدست ریخت و ملت را پراکنده کرد و دانشجوی شریف را دستگیر کرد. من و بقیه تماشاگران هم سریع زدیم به چاک. ظاهرا آنروز نیروی انتظامی چند نفری از دانشجوها را دستگیر کرد و بیشتر مورد ملاطفت قرارشان داد. اگر شما هم در آن ماجرا بودید در نظرات جزییات بیشتری بنویسید. چون یکی از وقایع مهم آن سالهای قبل دوم خرداد بود.

پ.ن.قدرت YouTube را هم دریابید. در عرض یک نصفه روز همه این را دیدند. بدون ویدیو اصلا این خبر اینقدر پوشش پیدا نمی‌کرد. برای همین من بر این باورم که YouTube بهترین خریدی بوده که گوگل تاحالا کرده‌است. قیمت ۱.۶ میلیارد دلار را هم کاملا ارزشش را داشت.

من الان دو بار زنگ زدم به پليس بار اول به ازشون خواستم که توضيح بدن که من رو به پرس ريليسشون ارجاع دادند و بار دوم هم زنگ زدم و بد بيراه گفتم.

من بعد خيلی مودبانه داد و بيداد کردم که این مساله نمی تونه فقط توسط پليس تحقيق بشه و شما به عنوان رئيس دانشگاه (که البته این بنده خدا منشی بود) مسئوليد که يک تيم
تحقيقاتی مستقل همراه با حقوق دان های بی طرف استخدام کنيد و بايد از دانشجوتون حمايت کنيد. که خوب
همين طور که می دونی اینها الان مثل سگ ترسيدن که سو بشن چون پليس دانشگاه بوده و طبيعتاً طرف این آقای مصطفی طباطبائی نژاد را نخواهند گرفت....

Thank you for sharing this. This was brutal and and i am still shivering after watched the whole 6 minutes. I think this matter has to be pursued legally. Poor guy!
Having said that, I don't think there is such a strong case against University Police. Here is why:
The officer told the guy "stand up!" at least 30 times! Now, I agree that the guy was pissed, tired, violated, humiliated and as a result was not in the right state of mind to recognize that resisting order is causing him more trouble. But still, police was doing what it was supposed to do. I don't think (I might be wrong) that they have code for how aggressive/offensive they act or if they are not allowed to threaten people (for example at the end of the tape the officer threatens one guy saying:"move over there or you'll be tazed,too!" I don think they have a code that prohibits them from saying this!) Keep in mind that police had no proof that this guy was student. So officers did not fill obliged to threat as a student (I am only saying this because you said in the post: "they cannot do this to an student!")
There is case, however, for mishandling and mismanagement by police officers and turn such a simple incident (I don't know how it started) into a 'cop show'! So I think the most that can happen is that this publicity is annoying for police and the officers will be yelled at by their boss and are asked to handle these incidents more quietly in the future. nothing more than that.
I will be happy to be proven wrong!
Another thing that can happen is that this incident makes university community launch a campaign against use of tzaer on campus. I cannot predict how successful that campaign would be.
Again, I am as disgusted, terrified, violated and angry as you and perhaps all the readers are from seeing this. I am just try to play devil's advocate and bring other perspective to the table. This way we have better understading of what we want to do about it and what can be done
احتمال دارد که پلیس بخاطر قیافه خاورمیانه‌ای این دانشجو به او گیر نداده‌است. ولی من بقدر شما مطمئن نیستم. تاجایی که در خبرها هست این فرد نشسته بود و داشته با کامپیوترش کار می‌کرده است. من هیچ وقت ندیده ام که از کسی در کتابخانه دانشگاه کارت بخواهند (مگر اینکه دم در این را بخواهند).
تازه این فرد داشته کتابخانه را ترک می‌کرده و اصلا پلیس لازم نبوده این برخورد را بکند. شوک الکتریکی می‌تواند منجر به مرگ شود. پلیس تنها باید در موارد خیلی خطرناک از آن استفاده کند.
در این موارد پلیس مقصر است ولی بیشتر از آن سیاستمدارهایی که دست پلیس را باز می‌گذارند و همینطور فضای پلیسی و رعب در کشور بوجود می‌آورد.
امکان اینکه این فرد بتواند بایستد اصلا وجود نداشته با توجه به مقدار شوکی که این سلاح به او وارد کرده بوده است. تازه پلیس می‌توانست او را حمل کند ببرد دیگر چه نیازی به شوک داشت.
با روح نوشته‌ات مشکل دارم. در این موارد ما به چیزی که نیاز نداریم devil's advocate هاست.
این نوع روحیه توان عمل جمعی را تضعیف می‌کند. من هم می‌دانم که در این ماجرا این دانشجو هم خالی از خطا نبوده‌است و شاید دانشجو بودنش یا خاورمیانه‌ای بودنش برای پلیس خیلی روشن نبوده است. ولی باورکن من در این یکی دوساله بقدری مورد تبعیض برعلیه ایرانیان شنیده‌ام که دیگر می‌دانم در ۹۰ درصد موارد خاورمیانه‌ای بودن یا مسلمان بودن طرف نوعی دخیل است. خیلی بعید می‌دانم که پلیس در این مورد با یک موبور آمریکایی همین رفتار را می‌کرد. تنها کاری که می‌شود کرد اول اعتراض کرد تا حداقل بدلیل اعتراض من و شما جزییات ماجرا روشن شود. اگر من و شما از هما ن اول شک مان غالب شود و هیچ کاری نکنیم مطمئن باشید که این نوع ماجراها ماستمالی می‌شود .
حداقل کاری که می‌توانید بکنید این است که به دفتر رییس دانشگاه UCLA زنگ بزنید و بگویید که نسبت به این ماجرا حساسید و انتظار بررسی کامل ماجرا را دارید.

The man is being electrically shocked. A weapon, a torturous weapon is being used against him. You have obviously never been electrically shocked by a gun to know how it affects your body. Read this document:

پلیس کار نداره طرف دانشجو هست یا نه یا پسورد داره یا نه. ضمنن کامپیوترهای کتابخونه ها معمولا پسورد ندارند :)
به پلیس هم این چیزها مربوط نمیشه مقاومت یعنی شوک
این چیزها همیشه برای بقیه اتفاق نمی‌افتد. آدمی مثل شما هم ممکن است کاملا بی‌دلیل گیرپلیس بیافتد و برای تفریحشان یک مقداری ناچیزی ولتاژ به شما وارد کنند. فکر کنم آن موقع می‌فهمید که لزوما شوک با مقاومت یا بخاطر مقاومت نیست.
Calm down! I am not defending Police's action. Nor am I justifying it or blaming the poor student for what happened. I just tried to point out to the kind of counter-argument that you are going to hear from Police, that's all.

اولا" که آقا مصطفی شاگرد يکی از دوستان منه توی دانشگاه. من چندتا نکته درآوردم که خواننده هات و هرکسی توی اين کاره بدنيست بهش توجه کنند.
قضيه اينکه چنددفعه از کارت نشون دادن سرباز زده ساختگيه. مامور اولی که مامور کتابخونه بوده فقط دو دفعه ازش سوال کرده و اون هم جواب داده که کارتش رو جا گذاشته و الان وسط يک کاريه و سريع تمومش می کنه و می ره. در اين بين، ماموره بی حوصلگی می کنه و می ره دنبال پليس که مصطفی کيفش رو می بنده و آماده می شه که راه بيفته و بره. داشته از پله های لب می رفته پايين که پليس مياد و بازوش رو می گيره و اون هم داد می زنه که ولم کن. اما پليس هلش می ده به طرف زمين و بقيه اش هم که توی ويديو هست.
اولن بايد اين دروغ پليس که اين چندبار از نشون دادن کارت سرباز زده رو روکرد. اصلا" اين کار رو نکرده. توی فيلم هم چندبار بعد از اينکه بهش دستبند زدند می گه که: من داشتم می رفتم که شما نگهم داشتيد.
اصلا" هم قبل از اين قضايا نه صداش رو بلند کرده بوده نه هيچ کاری خارج از قاعده کرده بوده.
بعد، فايده نداره به پليس زنگ بزنيد. زنگ بزنيد به دفتر رئيس و دفتر مسئول مسائل دانشجويان (Student's Affairs) و اگر خواستيد روزنامه ها. اما به نظر من مهمه که تاکيد کنید که قضیه اینکه چندبار ازش خواسته اند که کارت نشون بده ساختگيه و فقط برای اينکه رفتار پلیس رو تعديل کنند ساخته شده و اصلا" اينطور نبوده. بعد هم روی اين موضوع که اولين کسی که در مورد رفتار پليس شکايت کرد و ازشون اسم و شماره علامتشون رو خواست، يکی از مسئولين کتابخونه و کسی بود که پشت دکه اتاق کامپيوتر ايستاده بود و همه چيز جلوی چشماش اتفاق افتاد (من ازش سوال کردم و گفت پليسه بهش گفته که اسم و شماره اش ربطی به اون نداره). دختره گفته اما چرا با اين اينجوری رفتار می کنيد؟ ولش کنيد که بره، اما پليس به جاش به پسره دستبند زده.
اگر پلیس شوک دادن را هم بتونه توجیه کنه ( اون هم برای 5 بار) به هیچ عنوان نمی تونه وادار کردن فرد به بلند شدن و راه رفتن را توجیه کنه بدیهیه که هدف این دستگاه فلج کردن فرد برای چند دقیقه است. این مصداق عینی شکنجه است.

این مساله هیچ ربطی به patriot act
و اینها نداره. درست یا غلط قانونی هست که از مردم کارت شناسایی بخوان. این مشکل این فاجعه نیست بیخود مساله اصلی رو منحرف نکنین.
مساله اینه که یه مشت پلیس عوضی که حق نداشتن همچین غلطی بکنن با عرض معذرا گه زیادی خوردن و از قدرتشون به طرز تهوع أوری سو استفاده کردن.
باید هم جلوشون ایستاد و رس اشون را کشید تا دیگر همچین غلطی نکنند.
باید به عنوان یک community
عرضه داشته باشیم حق این چندتا عوضی رو کف دستشون بذاریم بدون این شاخ و برگ دادن های مهمل جهت دار و بودار به سیاست و سیاستمدارها و اینها.

Why we are not reacting to that but are very sensitive because this is done by American polic officer. Wright or wrong it sis not abig deal.
I completely understand (and do not aprove or agree) with an argument based on the fact that police officers were behaving within their code of conduct and rule of engagement. Again, I think this argument is silly and inhumane and I do not agree with it, but understand it.
What I don't understand is how a person can at same time make a judgment about the officers conduct and call it unlawful and brutal and at same time justify that act because in some other corner of the world "people are stoned to death"!! This is most stupid and ignorant argument that I have ever heard or read!
1. I think the fact that the same act or worse happens in Iran doesn't mean that it should happen in US or anyhere else in the free world.
2. If you have concenrns about who this Irnian-American was treated, doesn't mean you are indifferent about Sangsar or any other issues in Iran... It just means taht you are concenrned about human rights. Full stop.
3. The Iranian boy was not armed, and if he was or was not a student, Iranian or not, he should no have been treated like that. So the fact that they do not do it to a blond girl or white dude, should not make any difference in our judgment about this. If this man was blond, even if it would have happened to him in the same way, which we cannot confirm it either way, it would have been as bad. Please let go of your patriotic hourses... It is 21st century for God's sake.
4. In US this is a single incident that can be followed by law and the UCLA PD could and I hope should pay dearly for it. In Iran, this incident and worse can happen and noone can say a word. No one can follow it up and noone can do anything. That is the BIG difference. (This is for people who were comparing Iran's incident with this one). Hajarian was shot in the day light, and killer saw how many days in jail?
To sum up: we do not need to ocmpare it to Iran to say it is bad. It is bad on its own. We do not need to say the boy was Iranian so its bad, it was bad on its own. If we are to compare with Iran, people, let;s be fair.

I give you an example: about a year ago there was a concert of Guns n' Roses here in Vancouver. It got canceled, and the stupid fans strated to trash the place and break windows... So of course they got what they deserved, which was an arrest.
Now, this guy who was not a fan, who was just passing by, was walking in the street. The police orders him to go to the other side of the street. The guy wants to be smart and says no, why should I cross the street! He was not there to break windows or even go the concert. He was not even in the same age group or whatever. He was white as well, so you know! Anyhow, he was beaten so badly, that he lost all of his teeth, and broke a rib or two.
Now if he was an Iranian or Arab, I am sure you all would have shouted loud racism... But as you see, the white police, beating the white middeage man, just means plain crazy. Not racist, but crazy... The end was that the police was sues, and rightly so. The man should not have argued, but he should not have been beaten for arguing. So the man wins. The police should have explained why they are doing what they are doing, and the man may have listened! Nobosy would get sued and noone would have lost their teeth.
So let's take a deep breath and think again. Who is willing to tell me for sure hat what happened at UCLA was racism for sure? I am not syaing it was not, but I am saying not everything is related to racism... In Iran students are being beaten often is it the crazy people who beat them? Or is it the racist people who beat them?
Anyway, I think this is getting far from the point, I just wanted to say that one cannot assume racism all the time for any injustice.
